Malian bluesman
In his home country Mali Boubacar Traoré is a living legend. On his albums the blues tradition of the United States is melted together with Malian traditional music. This produces intimate songs, in combination with sunny, melancholy singing, in which the feeling of blues is enhanced by the use of the harmonica and the African roots resound under accompaniment of the calabash, balafon and lute. Fortunately the king of African blues is returning to Groningen, with amongst other things more work from his newest CD ‘Mbalimaou’. “Truly a new milestone in the work of this special, but humble artist. Malinese bluesman
Boubacar Traoré is in thuisland Mali een levende legende. Op zijn albums smelt de bluestraditie van de Verenigde Staten samen met Malinese traditionele muziek. Dat leidt tot intieme liedjes, in combinatie met zonnige, melancholische zang, waarbij het bluesgevoel wordt versterkt door het gebruik van mondharmonica en de Afrikaanse roots doorklinken door de begeleiding op kalebas, balafon en luit. De koning van de Afrikaanse blues komt gelukkig weer naar Groningen, met onder meer werk van zijn nieuwe cd ‘Mbalimaou’. “Werkelijk een nieuwe mijlpaal in het werk van deze bijzondere, maar bescheiden artiest.
