De liefde van Gabrieli Consort & Players voor klanken en sferen uit lang vervlogen tijden is bij het Groningse publiek bekend. Het Engelse topensemble zorgde eerder voor overrompelende authentieke uitvoeringen op het gebied van renaissance- en barokmuziek. Met dirigent Paul McCreesh als gids nemen zangers en musici u mee naar de Venetiaanse hoogtijdagen, waar in 1595 tegen de achtergrond van de basiliek San Marco de kroningsmis van doge Marino Grimani met ongekende pracht en praal werd gevierd. Muzikaal grijpt McCreesh terug op de belangrijkste Venetiaanse componisten uit die tijd: Andrea en Giovanni Gabrieli.
