The Ghanian Path Thomas and his Kwashibu Area Band are coming to Groningen. The singer is lovingly called “The Golden Voice Of Africa” and is one of the greats of the ‘Highlife’ music style. Here, traditional African music is complemented by Western instruments and arrangements.

Pat Thomas is in very good company with his band the Kwashibu Area Band. The band is led by multi-instrumentalist Kwame Yeboah, also very known in the music world (he has performed with Cat Stevens, amongst others).

The new album ‘Pat Thomas & Kwashibu Area Band’ was recently released at Strut records. Ebo Taylor wrote the wind instrument arrangements and the record is a style break with other recent work of Thomas and therefore also with the current ‘Highlife’ sound. Simply put, this means that the drum computers and synthesizers are left behind and they return to a more traditional Highlife/Afrobeat sound. A very good choice, as great musicians such as Pat Thomas don’t need computers.

Pat Thomas is in very good company with his band the Kwashibu Area Band. For example Afrobeat legend Tony Allen is behind the drums. Also, the band is led by multi-instrumentalist Kwame Yeboah, also very known in the music world (he has performed with Cat Stevens, amongst others
