“Ann Hallenberg dazzles with sensational virtuosity and warm tone. (…) Il Pomo d’Oro supports brilliantly.”

★★★★★ The Guardian

Venetian carnaval with Swedish mezzo
“Just like Cecilia Bartoli, Hallenberg exceeds in Italian baroque. But Bartoli isn’t the genre’s only saviour. Ann Hallenberg is her equal: she matches Baroli in virtuosity while hinting at autumn colours with her warm mezzo.” This what what NRC Handelsblad wrote after listening to the internationally well received double album “Carnevale 1729”, an album which Hallenberg made with the Italian baroque ensemble Il Pomo d’Oro. On the two CDs, the Swedish mezzo-soprano sings arias from composers such as Albinoni, Porpora and Orlandini, the kind of music that would have been heard during the beginnings of the eighteenth-century Venetian carnaval. The words of the international press speak for themselves: dive in and join the party!

“So incredibly warm, glowing, mouldable and imaginative – the result is breathtaking. What a voice, such a control of the text, such empathy and such a wonderful musical tapestry weaved by Il Pomo d’Oro.”- Opus Klassiek
