Michael League – bandleider van Bokanté, bassist van Snarky Puppy – en Metropole Orkest (MO) werkten eerder samen aan het Grammy Award winnende Sylva. En hoewel deze nieuwe samenwerking in veel opzichten onvergelijkbaar is, zullen fans van Snarky Puppy niet teleurgesteld zijn. Je herkent de schrijfstijl van League, terwijl zangeres Malika Tirolien de sfeer bepaalt met haar Creoolse/Franse teksten en zang. Voeg daar dan nog de skills van zes topmuzikanten van vier verschillende continenten aan toe en een supergroep is geboren.
Na hun debuut Strange Circles in 2017 ontstond wederzijdse interesse tussen de band en MO chef-dirigent Jules Buckley om samen te werken aan nieuwe muziek en zo wereldmuziek, connectiviteit, eenheid en liefde te vieren. Michael League: “Metropole Orkest is zonder twijfel mijn favoriete symfonische ensemble dat hedendaagse populaire muziek speelt. Hun veelzijdigheid is ongekend en het is een fantastische groep om mee te werken. Deze nieuwe samenwerking bestaat voor mij uit gelijke delen band-vocals-orkest en we vormen en creëren de muziek als eenheid.

Michael League – band leader of Bokanté – and Metropole Orkest first worked together on the Grammy Award winning ‘Sylva’. And while this collaboration is a whole different beast, fans of Snarky Puppy will not be disappointed. League’s writing style resonates throughout while singer Malika Tirolien sets the mood with her Creole/French lyrics. Couple that with the skills of six additional top musicians from four different continents and a supergroup is born.
Following their 2017 debut ‘Strange Circles’ the band and Metropole Orkest chief conductor Jules Buckley mutually expressed interest in working together on new music to celebrate world music, connectivity, unity and love. Michael League: “Metropole Orkest is my absolute favorite symphonic ensemble in the world for playing contemporary popular music. Their versatility is unmatched and they’re a genuine pleasure to work with. I think of this collaboration as equal parts band-vocals-orchestra and we’re exploring and shaping the music together.”
