Tijdens de editie van TakeRoot in 2017 lieten de mannen van Cordovas de jaren 70 herleven met hun knappe mix van southern rock en country. In juni stond de band voor het eerst in Groningen met een eigen show. Wij kunnen er geen genoeg van krijgen en daarom heten wij Cordovas zaterdag 13 april opnieuw van harte welkom. Deze keer in het Der Aa-Theater voor een TakeRoot presents concert.

Cordovas
De samenzang van Cordovas is verbluffend. Fris en van deze tijd, terwijl oudere voorbeelden als Crosby, Stills & Nash of The Band nooit ver weg zijn. Met fraaie songs en hun pure muzikaliteit vormen die vocalen de basis van de band. Het kwartet is gevestigd in Nashville en is aldaar één van de meest gewilde nieuwe acts. Jamie Ruben – eigenaar van het legendarische podium The Family Wash – zegt het zo: “They’re fantastic! Beautiful and real music, a rarity these days”. De band bestaat uit de ervaren Joe Firstmann, bekend van zijn soloalbum War of Women uit 2003, de jongere songsmid en sologitarist Lucca Soria, keyboardspeler Jon Loyd en de Californische drummer Graham Spillman.

De veelbelovende Canadese singer-songerwriter Joe Nolan heeft een licht omfloerste manier van zingen met soms een lichte bibber. Als hij de hoogte ingaat doet hij zelfs ietwat aan Jeff Buckley denken. Licht atmosferisch, maar toch rootsy. Joe Nolan is de support bij het concert van Cordovas.

During the 2017 edition of TakeRoot, the men of Cordovas revived the ‘70s with their clever mix of southern rock and country. In June the band performed in Groningen with their own show for the first time. We cannot get enough of it and that is why we extend a warm welcome to the Cordovas again on Saturday 13 April, in the Der Aa-Theater for a TakeRoot presents concert this time.

Cordovas’ harmonies are phenomenal. Refreshing and modern, yet older examples as Crosby, Stills & Nash or The Band are never far away. With fine songs and their pure musicality, the vocals form the basis of the band. The quartet resides in Nashville and is one of the most popular new acts there. Jamie Ruben – owner of the legendary podium The Family Wash – puts it this way: “They’re fantastic! Beautiful and real music, a rarity these days”. The band consists of the experienced Joe Firstmann, known for his 2003 solo album War of Women, the younger song smith and solo guitarist Lucca Soria, keyboardist Jon Loyd, and the Californian drummer Graham Spillman.

The promising Canadian singer-songwriter Joe Nolan sings in a muffled voice with a slight tremble every once in a while. When hitting the high notes, he sometimes even reminds of Jeff Buckley. Somewhat atmospheric, yet rootsy too. Joe Nolan is support act at Cordovas’ show.
