‘Whether he stands alone onstage with a guitar, is surrounded by a few other acoustic instruments or a full symphony, Gregory Alan Isakov is a master of his songwriting craft, and with the Colorado Symphony’s embellishments on his newest album, this folk legend is injected with a wonderful orchestral boost.’

Singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov, born in South Africa and raised in America, gained world-wide fame with his wonderful, peaceful single Íf I Go I’m Going, soundtrack of Californication. On 28 November, he will come to De Oosterpoort together with Joe Purdy.

Subdued folk

Gregory Alan Isakov’s music is inspired by Leonard Cohen, Kelly Joe Phelps, and Isakov’s big hero Bruce Springsteen. His music can be described as subdued folk, decorated with soft guitar strumming, mandolin, and calm, gloomy vocals.

Landscape stories

Gregory Alan Isakov has not always been a musician. Before he broke through with his indie-rock and folk songs, he worked as a market gardener. The stories of landscapes, places, and travels can be heard in his music.

Ode to a city

One of those places is Amsterdam. The eponymous 2013 song is not just an ode to our capitol, but is also about coming home. Perhaps Gregory Alan Isakov will write a song about Groningen following his visit to De Oosterpoort in November.
