Zo veroverde Kayak in 1978 de USA Top 60 met de single Want You To Be Mine.

Kayak in English

Legendary Dutch progressive-rock band Kayak is reborn and will return to Groningen. Led by founder Ton Scherpenzeel on keys, Kayak reappears with singer Bart Schwertmann, guitarist Marcel Singor, bassist Kristoffer Gildenlöw, and drummer Collin Leijenaar.

In the band’s early years, Kayak was often compared to contemporaries as Yes and Focus. The band soon developed its own style: symphonic rock with a focus on songs instead of elaborate solos and long instrumental parts.

Kayak
Over the years Kayak’s line-up changed often. Co-founder Ton Scherpenzeel is the only remaining band member and he still is leader of the band.

Platinum status
The band has many hits to its name. Kayak for example conquered the USA Top 60 in 1978 with the single Want You To Be Mine. A year later Phantom of the Night became the most successful album Kayak ever made. The album gained platinum status in the Netherlands and reached number one in the Dutch album charts within a few weeks. The single of the album Ruthless Queen reached the Dutch top 5. After this success, the group decided to split up in 1981.

But now they are back! Just when everyone expects the boat to sink, it miraculously resurfaces and sails on. With its newest album Seventeen, released in January this year, the band wants to proof they still have what it takes. On Kayak’s seventeenth studio album Camel guitarist Andy Latimer features as special guest.
