Rue Royale
Met het indiefolkduo Rue Royale komt de liefde naar de Lutherse Kerk in Groningen en laat het publiek in vervoering achter. Want: “Deze twee globetrotters zijn meer dan minstrelen. Dit is liefde. Naar elkaar, naar het publiek en geuit in hun liedjes. Het is liefde zonder grenzen. Het is een uur alledaags geluk.” (3voor12)
Prachtige, harmonieuze samenzang
Het begon allemaal in 2006 voor het duo annex echtpaar Ruth en Brookln Dekker uit Chicago met de zelfgeproduceerde EP The Search for Where to Go. Sindsdien zijn ze onder het motto ‘Het draait om de reis, niet om de bestemming’ bijna non-stop op tour geweest met meer dan 1000 optredens in 16 landen. Van kleine koffietentjes tot massaal bezochte festivals en alles daar tussenin: overal wisten zij het publiek voor zich in te nemen met hun betoverende folk vol prachtige, Fleetwood Mac-achtige, harmonieuze samenzang.
Wonderschone, hartverscheurende nummers
Niet alleen live, maar ook op plaat weten Brookln en Ruth de luisteraar onmiddelijk kippenvel te bezorgen met wonderschone en op z’n tijd hartverscheurende nummers als Set Out To Discover en Pull Me Like A String. Vanuit hun huidige Engelse woonplaats Nottingham leverden zij fraaie, vaak hypnotiserende albums af als Guide To An Escape (2012) en Remedies Ahead (2014), aanraders voor alle liefhebbers van bijvoorbeeld Doves, Elbow, Damien Rice en bovengenoemde Fleetwood Mac.
Nieuw album vol tekstuele en ritmische inventiviteit
Na een welverdiende sabbatical – in verband met de komst van hun eerste kindje – is de draad afgelopen jaar weer opgepakt met als resultaat de zinnenprikkelende plaat vol reflectie In Parallel. Deze vierde elpee van het duo werd geproduceerd met behulp van de Amerikaanse singer-songwriter Sean Carey, bekend van Bon Iver en tegenwoordig door het leven gaand onder de artiestennaam S. Carey (te zien 17 september in de Lutherse Kerk). In Parallel is een prachtplaat vol tekstuele en ritmische inventiviteit en laverend tussen lieflijke folk, post rock en afrobeat.

Beautiful, peaceful harmonies
It all started in 2006 for the duo annex married couple Ruth and Brookln Dekker from Chicago, with their self-produced EP ‘The Search for Where to Go’. Since then, on the pretext of “It is about the journey, not the destination”, they have been touring almost non-stop, with more than 1000 performances in 16 countries. From small coffee places to major festivals and everything in between: they have won the audiences over with their enchanting folk full of beautiful, Fleetwood Mac-like, peaceful harmonies.
Wonderful, heart-breaking songs
Not just live, also on record Brookln and Ruth immediately give the listener goosebumps with their wonderful and sometimes heart-breaking songs as ‘Set Out To Discover’ and ‘Pull Me Like A String’. From their current English address in Nottingham, they produce fine, often hypnotising albums as ‘Guide To An Escape’ (2012) and ‘Remedies Ahead’ (2014), recommended for fans of for example Doves, Elbow, Damien Rice, and the abovementioned Fleetwood Mac.

After a well-deserved sabbatical – because of the birth of their first child – they picked up the thread last year, resulting in a titillating album full of reflection: ‘In Parallel’. The duo’s fourth record was produced with help of the American singer-songwriter Sean Carey, known for being a Bon Iver band member and currently using the stage name S. Carey (performing in the Lutheran Church on 17 September). ‘In Parallel’ is a wonderful album filled with lyrical and rhythmic inventiveness and steers between lovely folk, post rock, and afrobeat.
