TakeRoot Take Off
Onder muzikale begeleiding van Groninger americana artiesten Joost Dijkema en Hans Hannemann worden tijdens TakeRoot Take Off, op zondag 15 april, de eerste namen van het TakeRoot festival bekend gemaakt. Op die dag staan ook de internationale acts Blitzen Trapper, The Deep Dark Woods en Kacy & Clayton in De Oosterpoort met een TakeRoot presents show.
TakeRoot presents: Roots, country en soortgelijke stromingen met respect voor het rijke Amerikaanse muzikale erfgoed.

TakeRoot festival 2018
Dit najaar vindt de 21ste editie van TakeRoot plaats in De Oosterpoort, het ‘festival for past, present and upcoming American music’. Het muziekfestival is als een reis door Amerika, ook door de tijd. Op de 21e editie van TakeRoot wordt wederom een staalkaart gepresenteerd van de voortdurend meanderende stroom van de Amerikaanse muziek.
Joost Dijkema
De Drentse Groninger Joost Dijkema is een van de weinige jonge fingerpickin’ gitaristen uit Nederland. Hij speelt bezwerende, verbluffende akoestische gitaar-instrumentals, afgewisseld door prachtige liedjes met warme vocalen.
Hans Hannemann
De songs van de Groningse singer-songwriter Hans Hannemann lijken uit vervlogen tijden te komen, maar leveren niets in op originaliteit. Met sterke teksten, een donker stemgeluid en pakkende melodieën klinkt de ‘Outlaw Crooner’ authentiek én toegankelijk.
TakeRoot presents: Blitzen Trapper
Johnny Cash meets The Kinks. Het Amerikaanse Blitzen Trapper maakt grensverleggende muziek met een focus op country, folk, pop en psychedelische rock. Op 15 april komt de band uit Portland naar Groningen met hun unieke ‘hillbilly-gangster’ sound.
TakeRoot presents: Deep Dark Woods
Laat je meevoeren door de prachtige stem van Ryan Boldt, frontman van de Canadese alternatieve folk-formatie The Deep Dark Woods. Songwriter Boldt combineert moeiteloos de muzikale folk- en bluestradities van Ierland tot Tennessee.
TakeRoot presents: Kacy & Clayton
De muziek van het Canadese duo Kacy & Clayton is geïnspireerd op Americana en Britse folkrock uit de jaren ‘70. Vorig jaar kwam hun derde album The Siren’s Song uit, geproduceerd door americana grootheid Jeff Tweedy.
TakeRoot Take Off
De presentatie van de eerste namen van TakeRoot 2018 en de shows van Joost Dijkema en Hans Hannemann in het entreegebied zijn vrij toegankelijk. Voor de TakeRoot presents concerten van Blitzen Trapper, Deep Dark Woods en Kacy & Clayton koop je een ticket dat toegang geeft tot de Binnenzaal.
Tijdens TakeRoot Take Off is er een uitgebreid aanbod voor vegetariërs en worden burgers, beenham en biologische Noorse zalm bereid op een smoker. Bij de bierbar met speciaalbier is ook het Kleintje TakeRoot festival bier verkrijgbaar.

Musically accompanied by Americana artists Joost Dijkema and Hans Hannemann, from Groningen, the first TakeRoot festival names will be announced during TakeRoot Take Off on Sunday 15 April. On that same day the international acts Blitzen Trapper, The Deep Dark Woods, and Kacy & Clayton will be performing a TakeRoot presents show in De Oosterpoort.
TakeRoot festival 2018
This autumn the 21st edition of TakeRoot – the ‘festival for past, present and upcoming American music’ – takes places in De Oosterpoort. The music festival is a journey through America as well as through time. During the 21st edition of TakeRoot again a sampling of the continuously meandering flow of American music is presented.
Joost Dijkema
Joost Dijkema, from the province of Drenthe but living in Groningen, is one of the few young fingerpickin’ guitarists from the Netherlands. He plays mesmerising, astonishing acoustic guitar instrumentals, alternated with wonderful songs characterised by warm vocals.
Hans Hannemann
The songs of singer-songwriter Hans Hannemann, from Groningen, seem to have originated in bygone times, yet are highly original. With strong lyrics, dark vocals and catchy melodies, the ‘Outlaw Crooner’ sounds both authentic and accessible.

Johnny Cash meets The Kinks. The American Blitzen Trapper makes ground-breaking music with a focus on country, folk, pop, and psychedelic rock. The Portland band will bring their unique ‘hillbilly-gangster’ sound to Groningen on 15 April.
TakeRoot presents: Deep Dark Woods
Get carried away by the beautiful voice of Ryan Boldt, frontman of the Canadian alternative folk formation The Deep Dark Woods. Songwriter Boldt effortlessly combines the musical folk and blues traditions from Ireland to Tennessee.
TakeRoot presents: Kacy & Clayton
Canadian duo Kacy & Clayton’s music is inspired by Americana and British folk rock from the ‘70s. Last year their third album The Siren’s Song was released, produced by Americana big shot Jeff Tweedy.
TakeRoot Take Off
The announcement of the first TakeRoot 2018 names as well as the shows from Joost Dijkema and Hans Hannemann in the entrance are accessible free of charge. For access to the TakeRoot presents performances by Blitzen Trapper, Deep Dark Woods, and Kacy & Clayton, a ticket has to be purchased.
During TakeRoot Take Off, a comprehensive range of vegetarian food is on offer, as well as burgers, ham off the bone, and biological Norwegian salmon prepared on a smoker. At the specialty beer bar, you can try the specially brewed TakeRoot festival beer.
